Step 6: care after death
Good end of life care does not stop at the point of death. The support and care provided for
relatives will help them cope with their loss and is essential for achieving a “good death”. It is also
important for staff, many of whom will become emotionally connected to the resident.

Aim: Provide excellent support and care after death

Objectives: By the end of the session the Care Home Representative will be able to: • Identify good practice for the deceased resident (Last Offices) • Give practical support and information to families, significant others, staff and other residents • Respect individual faiths and beliefs to address individual wishes • Have an action plan to implement a bereavement policy. |
