In 2008 the North West Strategic Health Authority (SHA) End of Life Clinical Pathway Group (CPG) devolved responsibility for end of life care to the three cancer networks in its region. In addition, the team needed to support the implementation of the National and North West End of Life Care Strategy required a broader representation than the teams already in place to support cancer services.

Julie Foster was appointed strategic lead for the Network due to her background in the mental capacity act, learning disabilities and PPC end of life care tool Dr Elizabeth Bailey, associate specialist in renal medicine with a special interest in end of life care and advance care planning for dialysis patients was appointed lead clinician. Julie and Elizabeth have built up a team of key stakeholders from broad and diverse backgrounds with a wealth of knowledge and expertise to support the delivery of high quality end of life care to all who need it in Cumbria and Lancashire.
