The Connected© ACST Programme has been developed in response to the NHS Cancer Plan (2000) and NICE guidance for Supportive and Palliative Care 2004. This workshop enables senior cancer clinicians to meet the requirements set by Cancer Peer Review. However the programme is suitable for any staff involved in giving significant news to patients and relatives, i.e. Band 6 and above including GPs, Consultants and Specialist Registrars.
The 2-day programme (previously 3-days) is learner-centred and involves role play and feedback. It will enable senior clinicians to enhance their skills and their confidence so that the experience of all patients and relatives can be improved.
Medical staff will receive 12 non-clinical CPD points on completion of this workshop. Participants can also apply for two additional CPD points for completion of the workbook prior to the course.
For those students working towards a further academic qualification this workshop forms part of the module NU3642 Communication in Life Threatening Illness and provides 20 credits at Level 6.

The price of the workshop is £565 but Cumbria and Lancashire End of Life Network and Lancashire and Cumbria End of Life Network fund places on these courses for staff working in key roles within cancer and end of life services.

As many of the issues surrounding this training are about dealing with distress and end of life, it can be an emotional experience. It is not advisable to attend if you have recently undergone any personal recent serious ill-health or suffered the bereavement of a loved one.
